About Colic

My Baby Won’t Stop Crying / Why is my baby crying all the time?

learn-about-colic.jpgMost unexplained and prolonged crying episodes are simply labeled “colic”. Theories as to what colic is fussy-baby(or why it occurs) are just as plentiful as they are varied.

In general, babies start exhibiting colic symptoms around two weeks of age, with it’s worst stage happening at around the age of six weeks before finally ending when the child is around three to four moths old.

While this is a relatively short time period in your baby’s life, the three or four months that it can last seem like an eternity to the parents who have to watch helplessly as their baby is in pain.

Distinguishing Facts about Colic:

Colic is a common problem in normal, well-developing, healthy children. Although it is not a disease, it does deprive both children and parents of much needed sleep and causes psychological, emotional and physical stress.

Of the nearly 4 million babies born in the United States each year, approximately 25% suffer from colic. This means that every year about a million babies, and everyone around them, are negatively affected by what appears to be inconsolable crying.

Determining whether or not a baby is suffering from colic can be difficult. Colicky babies often have a normal appetite and are otherwise healthy. However, they are fussy and uncomfortable and need to be held close and cuddled.

The HappiTummi® is a simple remedy that often takes the guesswork out of what is wrong with the baby and eliminates the need to test numerous medications and treatments. It is an easy to use solution that has been proven to effectively relieve gas and pain associated with colic.

What Causes Colic?

Doctor’s speculate that colic may be due to allergies, dietary changes, food moving too quickly or too slowly through a baby’s digestive system, or a baby’s trouble adjusting to its surroundings or its day and night cycles. In short, doctor’s just aren’t sure.

Parent stress and anxiety, can also prolong infant fussiness. Happi Tummi® creator, Nanette Meneses, noticed that the increased anxiety that she experienced as a new mother, unable to soothe her baby, often contributed to her baby’s extended bouts of colic. It is extremely important for the parent to stay calm to effectively soothe the baby.

Although gas is frequently associated with colic, it is often a result of air swallowed from continuous crying rather than the direct cause. The Happi Tummi® effectively calms and soothes the baby and often helps eliminate the crying.

This information is in no way intended to give medical advice. If your baby is chronically crying you should consult your physician. If your baby has allergies or sensitivities, please consult your pediatrician before using the Happi Tummi®.
